Bumpa is a ritual vase with a beak used in Tibetan Buddhist rituals and initiations. Bumpa is understood as the vessel or expansion of the universe. In Tibet, bumpa is used to sprinkle sacred nectar (saffron-infused water mixed with other ingredients) on images, offerings, and initiates. The nectar is also poured into the cupped hands of disciples. They savor a little of it and the rest on their heads to transform and bless themselves internally. The body of the vessel is usually covered with cloth.
