What sets Tibetan earrings apart and how are they worn?

Earrings have a long history in Tibet that goes beyond decoration. Tibetan women traditionally wore large, striking jewellery that also showed which region or family they came from, and men often wore a single earring in the left ear. This delight in colour and form is still alive today, even if modern pieces are usually simpler and fit more easily into everyday life.
