Meditation Cushions

The body needs a settled place before the mind can find stillness. Meditation cushions in the Tibetan tradition, filled and shaped for an upright, relaxed posture.

Why does the right meditation cushion matter more than you might think?

Anyone who meditates regularly knows the problem. The mind is ready, but the body speaks up. A pulling back, legs going numb, a posture that cannot be held after a few minutes. Meditation begins in the body. If the body does not settle, the mind cannot either.

A good meditation cushion addresses this, not through luxury but through function. It raises the pelvis slightly so the spine can straighten naturally. The knees sink downwards, the hips open, the back finds its natural curve. This posture can be held for a long time, with far less effort and strain.

Tibetan meditation cushions have a long tradition. They are made from hard-wearing natural materials, often cotton or brocade on the outside, filled with buckwheat husks or kapok. Buckwheat filling has the advantage of adapting to the shape of the body while still giving a stable base. Kapok is lighter and softer, well suited to people with sensitive joints.

The right height of cushion depends on your own mobility and preferred sitting posture. For the lotus or half-lotus position we recommend a higher cushion. For kneeling, also called seiza, a flatter, longer cushion works well. If you are unsure, do get in touch. We will advise you personally and help you find the right cushion for your practice.

At tibet-markets.ch we carry meditation cushions in various sizes, shapes and fillings, all carefully chosen for an upright, relaxed and sustainable meditation posture.
